Supporting Mental Wellbeing in the Classroom
Faculty Resources
Faculty Advocates Workshops
Tulane faculty members are sometimes first responders when a student is in crisis, be it an academic setback or exhibiting the first signs of a mental health issue. Providing training for faculty to act as advocates for our students could make the difference between a student falling through the cracks and a student who is able to recover and thrive during their time at Tulane. In partnership with CELT, Wave of Support is offering two lunch and learn opportunities this fall to explore the foundations of supporting mental health in the classroom. Please join Program Managers Rachel Weber and Sam Bruce as they facilitate conversations around ways to incorporate best practices into existing courses as well as learn new tools to create safe spaces in the classroom.
Faculty Toolkit
Wave of Support helps all areas of campus feel confident in supporting one another. We recognize that Tulane faculty members are sometimes first responders when a student is in crisis, be it an academic setback or exhibiting the first signs of a mental health issue. This toolkit contains research from the nation’s leading mental health organizations (The JED Foundation and Active Minds) as well as Tulane-specific resources to help you:
Feel more comfortable responding to student concerns as they arise.
Create a safe space for students within your classroom, office, research lab, etc.
Navigate the many resources and referrals students may need.
We hope this toolkit serves as a foundation for continued commitment to mental wellness as a core value of Tulane University. If you have any questions, concerns, thoughts, or suggestions, please email us as waveofsupport@tulane.edu.
